Little Dilly found herself in a pound as yet another unclaimed stray.
She’s been bred from…of course!
I always love a cheeky tongue out photo but these photos aren’t a well caught snap of a cute dog with their tongue out…this is a little dog who spends her entire time panting and struggling to breathe because of the way her breed has been altered over time.
Brachycephalic dogs such as pugs and frenchies have muzzles that looks like they has been flattened or squashed inwards. Their bottom jaw is disproportionately longer than their upper jaw, and the dog may look as though their lower jaw sticks out.
Brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS) – also known as brachycephalic syndrome – is common in flat-faced dogs. The ability to breathe normally is commonly a struggle for dogs with this syndrome, and Dilly is a prime example.
Dilly will have spent her life constantly struggling to breathe…even when resting and in cooler weather, so you can imagine how awful it is for her during exercise and heat.
She’s booked in for surgery next week where hopefully they can help to breathe better.
Yet again we pick up the pieces of greeders who constantly exploit these dogs…and are nowhere to be seen when they are left abandoned at pounds who are consistently filled with dumped dogs.
We can’t change the world, but we can change the life of the ones who walk through our doors.

Before this video, she had only walked about 30 steps from the car, and was in air conditioned room.
