Wilbur

Wilbur being Wilbur

Hi everyone!
My name is Wilbur and I am an approximately 4 year old, 16kg spaniel who came to SEDR as an unclaimed stray. I have now been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.
I am looking for an adult only home as the only dog - with no cats or small furries!!
I have progressive retinal atrophy which means my pupils are permanently dilated and therefore my eyesight is not 100% I see better when its dark, and manage well with the condition, but need to be kept on a long lead when out walking in case I run too far and struggle to see you, or I can be off lead with a whistle in an enclosed field.
I am great with other dogs out and about but will not share my home with another dog.

Here is what my foster mum says about me!
Wilbur is without doubt the most loving, cuddly, snuggly dog I have ever met. He loves nothing more then to snuggle up as close to you as possible.
In the house Wilbur is clean, but he sometimes needs a little nudge if the weather is bad but is very good at crossing his legs and hasn’t had an accident. Wilbur walks beautifully on a lead when wearing his harness but like a typical spaniel his nose is always to the ground and he does occasionally cross your path. He doesn’t like the lead around his neck.
Wilbur is very treat driven which has made training easy. His recall is fantastic and he responds to “Wilbur come” and the promise of a treat. Sometimes he gets caught up with a scent, so if he wanders too far... I do a lot of jumping up and down and waving. I also use a whistle so he can find me which he responds very well too, but only in safe and enclosed areas.
He knows his basic commands as well as ‘off’, ‘down’ and no! He can be a bit cheeky and jump up at the work top if there is food around though.
He loves his toys and gets very attached to them, carrying them around all the time. He gets anxious if he can’t find one.
Wilbur is crate trained and is quite happy going in his crate. He can be left around 4 hours and sleeps in his crate at night.
He loves to steal a slipper or a shoe but has never been destructive. He just likes carrying them around.
All in all this beautiful little boy is pretty much the perfect dog. He needs someone who is active and can walk him twice a day or run with him but who is very happy having a total lap dog in the evenings.
